What is the History Hounds program?
The History Hounds is a reading program designed to promote non-fiction, historical and informational reading at Julian Newman Elementary School. Students in 3rd and 4th grade who read 20 History Hounds books throughout the school year will be recognized at the end of year Award's Day Ceremony. In order to be recognized, students must read 20 History Hounds books in or near their Lexile reading range and pass the AR tests. These books are shelved in a special section of the JNES Library. A special stamp on the inside cover indicates that it qualifies as a History Hound book. Students record information about the books they read on the History Hound Record sheet available in the JNES Library.
